Our craftspeople are at the heart and soul of Keeley Construction and our growth would not be possible without their hard work and dedication. Laura Matthews, Craft Recruitment Manager, proudly works with our People Operations Group to recruit, retain, and develop best-in-class field talent while driving a vision of growth, support, and empowerment.
Since joining the team, Laura has felt that Keeley has truly restored her sense of purpose. As someone who is dedicated to service, empowering others through job opportunities in the crafts has infused her career with energy and excitement. Achieving goals, sharing experiences, and mentoring others are aspects of her job that she is incredibly passionate about and they keep her motivated and engaged every day. Honing these passions at Keeley empowered her to bring that sense of purpose back to every aspect of her life.
“From day one, I have been able to voice my opinions and have a seat at the table. This has helped me gain a thorough understanding of our organization and engage in open, honest conversation. Contributing feedback to elevate Keeley’s hiring process to truly best-in-class gives me confidence that we are attracting top talent to join our team across the nation. I am grateful to work with such a supportive team where everyone has a voice, our values are aligned, and we are driving towards a common vision.”
Laura immigrated to the United States from Lima, Peru five years ago and has built her career in construction ever since. Acts of service is her love language, so a career in construction recruitment allows her to contribute to others’ financial stability and sense of purpose. Switching to this industry was a complete career change, but she saw an opportunity, took it, and hasn’t looked back. When she looks to the future, she sees herself not only continuing to grow her own career, but also helping others grow in theirs.
“As an immigrant living in the United States, I have a deep understanding of the struggles faced by people from various backgrounds. I strive to be a testament to others and show them that with hard work and motivation, anything is achievable. I want to provide people the right tools and resources so they can achieve their goals and be successful. I am incredibly grateful to be part of the American community. It’s powerful being part of something many people dream about, and I am here to show them that anything is possible.”
Working with the People Operations Group at Keeley has allowed Laura to collaborate with a team of skilled leaders, inspiring her belief in endless opportunities. If she were to offer advice to newcomers in the industry, it would be:
“Emphasize research and focus on culture & diversity. Investigate companies that are committed to diversifying their teams. A diverse group of people with different backgrounds offers multiple perspectives on resolving issues. Varied ideas and opinions lead to innovative solutions.”
Laura proudly helped create self-perform field teams at her last company. During her recruiting and onboarding process, she saw that she had an opportunity to bring new ideas and processes to help Keeley build up our self-perform teams for each group. She is incredibly excited to hit the ground running and build relationships with our teams across the nation.
“So far at Keeley, I have experienced nothing but support, openness to my new ideas, and a culture of inclusivity. I understand the high expectations placed upon me and I am excited to exceed them. I am dedicated to improving processes and systems to enhance overall efficiency. My goal-driven attitude fuels my motivation and Keeley’s focus on achieving results inspires me to excel. I am eager to see what we can accomplish together!”
Laura, thank you for bringing your talents to Keeley and for your fresh outlook on our craft recruitment efforts. We are so excited to see how you take our processes to the next level. Congratulations on your US citizenship – the sky is the limit for you!
