Keeley'n Spotlight: Cameron Grimmer

Our team in Texas is growing rapidly and we are expanding our presence across the region. Cameron Grimmer, Project Manager for Texas Civil, has taken on one of Keeley’s largest projects, making a name for ourselves in Texas as we grow our services. This project has been a game changer for this team and has opened up the door for many opportunities to come.

Cameron joined Keeley in July of 2021 as a Project Engineer for a Primary Crusher Foundations job in New Braunfels, TX. This job was a very technically challenging reinforced concrete structure that now holds one of the largest rock crushers in the nation. Cameron was given the opportunity to manage the job and had great success, with ZERO safety incidents, excellent margins, and a happy client. Throughout the course of the job, he was promoted to Assistant Project Manager and now, Project Manager. For Cameron, this project has been a great success story for Keeley’s expansion into Texas and he is looking forward to many more to come. This career growth and project success has given Cameron an immense sense of empowerment in his work.

“I have felt empowered in my work by being encouraged to have autonomy in decision making, managing work, and taking on new challenges. I feel that I am in control of my successes, career growth, and professional development because Keeley has given me the tools and support to flourish.”

Growing up, Cameron always enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands. In college, he majored in Civil Engineering, but knew he didn’t want to be behind a desk all day, so construction was a natural fit. The critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity involved in building something stimulates his engineering mindset while also allowing him to feel like a kid again building a treehouse in his backyard. Working in this industry also gives Cameron a sense of pride and accomplishment when he is able to take an idea on paper and turn it into a reality, bringing a customer’s vision to life. It’s a fun process getting to see his hard work and energy come together as a lasting piece of infrastructure that society will use for many years to come. Cameron has loved every second of his career, so if he could give a piece of advice to someone just starting out in the industry, it would be:

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Whether you are pushing a broom or are an engineer fresh out of college, the more you strive to understand the why’s and how’s of the work being performed, the faster you will advance in the industry. Sometimes you have to put your head down and focus on a singular task, but don’t ever hesitate to expand your understanding by asking questions when given the opportunity.”

Keeley is all about learning from challenges and embracing those “fail forward” moments we all experience. Cameron has experienced some incredibly valuable learning moments along the way that have shaped his career, his projects, and his leadership style.

“Some of my favorite learning moments have occurred when brainstorming how to overcome construction challenges. It’s typically a collaborative process with ideas being pitched by multiple people and often individual ideas are pulled from different people and joined together to land on the best possible solution. I’ve learned it’s imperative to listen and keep an open mind because there are so many great ideas out there that may improve a process or way of doing things that could benefit the bottom line.”

Keeley’ns live by our core values – PRIDE – every day and Cameron sees Integrity lived out in every team member. Conducting oneself and the business with integrity is a precedent that has been set and encouraged from the top down, and it’s evident in how Cameron’s team interacts with each other and with clients, how decisions are made, and how the business operates.

Since beginning his Keeley career, Cameron has genuinely felt appreciated, encouraged, and supported by his team members, managers, and leadership. This family-oriented culture and mindset has given Cameron the opportunity to truly dream for the future. When he thinks about his vision, he sees Keeley growing in Texas and becoming a household name in the region. He has a personal investment in seeing and contributing to the overall success of the company, not only in this region, but across the nation. Big things are coming and he can’t wait to be part of it. With this growth comes new team members, and Cameron wants others to know that they should consider Keeley if they are looking for a career destination.

“There are so many offerings that set Keeley apart. The people, the culture, the benefits, and the opportunities for career growth are some of the major selling points that attract potential candidates and keep them long after they join the team.”

Cameron, thank you for your leadership and dedication for building our Texas office! We are grateful to have you in the family and can’t wait to see what amazing things you continue to accomplish.
